A conditional discharge is usually removed from the RCMP database after 3 years and an absolute discharge is usually removed after 1 year.  However, it is a good idea to apply for a file destruction so that the local police remove the records at the local level as well which will also confirm it is deleted at the federal or national level.  As long as you have never been denied entry to the US, then once the criminal record is removed you should be safe for travel.
